Building Chicken Coops Uk

Betty asks…

Adopting ex.battery Hens?

Saw this today:

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20090508/tuk-...

I have a garden and work from home, so could, in theory, keep a few chickens in the garden (as pets) but I wouldn't know where to start! Where can I get some advice? They'd literally just be pets. I'd need to know how to build a chicken coop (or pay someone to do that) and then how to feed them and keep an eye on their health and look after them. Don't want any eggs, just considering keeping a few chickens as pets and looking for advice on that.

Just to mention - I'm asking this question 3 times (in 3 diff categories). Not wanting to irritate anyone and won't ask it a 4th time - Just looking for more perspectives on this so putting it in 3 categories.
thanks

Start them off in smaller spaces 1st as they may harm themselves if they go straight to big spaces. I don't know anything else about chickens but I am so happy you are helping these chickens + saving them from a horrific life + death.

John asks…

Is it possible to change/appeal against the terms of a deed in the UK?

We live in a house which is literally on the edge of our city (in fact the only thing between us and the next city is fields and farms).

We have two neighbor's and our back wall boarders on to two farms, one of which keeps chickens, ducks and two horses.

I would like to keep 3 or 4 bantam chickens in a coop but it says on our deed no pigs, poultry only domesticated dogs and cats. I seems ridiculous as we are only a stone wall away from someone keeping poultry.

Surely, there must be some system which allows me to appeal against this? The house was build in 1964 - have laws changed since in the UK?

Any help/advice/previous experience is greatly appreciated!

Talk to a Solicitor.

Deeds in the UK are usually strictly construed, and restrictions hard to change.
