Chicken Coop Floor

Maria asks…

Advice on a chicken coop!?

I renovated this old dog house into a small chicken coop for about 4 chickens. It is about 2.5-3 feet off the ground and has a floor made of chicken wire. Will this be okay for them? To have a floor of chicken wire so all there droppings go straight down onto the ground below them? Will this be bad for the winter(I live in CT)? If so, how should I modify it?

The size isent bad but with a chicken wire floor it will get to cold in the winter. They could die if it is to cold and with a chicken wire floor animals could get in and kill your chickens :( . I hope that helps!

Helen asks…

how to build a chicken coop?

these can't be bigger than 24'x24'. It should be able to keep eggs from cracking, also with water containers that will not putrefy, nor feed become moldy.
Also it should have a method for easy cleaning that will not erode the floor of th coop and a natural air filtration system to eliminate odors.
When is cold chickens must be kept warm when is hot they must be kept cold.
And also the materials can't be too expensive.

I know these sounds too specific but this is for a project and i need i ideas in how can i design a chicken coop that can meet these requirements.

I Will Appreciate all the help Possible. Thanks.
These project is for my Engineering class and yes my teacher might be crazy for asking all these.
